New Delhi: Agriculture: The government has extended the Minimum Import Price (MIP) condition for glufosinate and its salts until April 12, 2027. Under the rule, imports priced below Rs 1,154 per kg, including applicable anti-dumping duty, will remain restricted.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, issued Notification No. 43/2026-27 on October 12, 2026, extending the existing condition. The measure was initially introduced through Notification No. 10/2026-27 on April 13, 2026.

Imports Below Rs 1,154 Per Kg Restricted

Under the revised timeline, imports of glufosinate and its salts will be classified as “Restricted” if their combined Cost, Insurance and Freight (CIF) value and applicable anti-dumping duty fall below Rs 1,154 per kg. Imports valued at or above the prescribed threshold will remain under the “Free” category, subject to compliance with other applicable regulations.

Registration Requirements Continue

Importers must hold valid registration certificates issued by the Central Insecticides Board and Registration Committee (CIB&RC), under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. Products prohibited under the Insecticides Act, 1968, cannot be imported under this provision.

What It Means for the Agrochemical Industry

Glufosinate is a broad-spectrum herbicide used to control weeds in agriculture. By extending the minimum import price condition, the government aims to regulate low-priced imports and support a more competitive domestic agrochemical market.

The extension may provide some relief to domestic manufacturers from competition with lower-priced imported products. However, its actual impact will depend on import volumes, market prices and domestic production trends.
