CTTC Bhubaneswar Trains Over 8,000 Engineering Students in Industry-Oriented Summer Internship Programme

The Central Tool Room & Training Centre (CTTC), Bhubaneswar, under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), has successfully completed its four-week Summer Internship Training Programme held during May and June 2026. The programme provided intensive, industry-oriented practical training to 8,083 engineering students from 22 States and Union Territories, along with 26 international students from Sudan and Yemen.

The initiative reflects the growing focus on strengthening industry-ready skills among young engineers and improving their employability through hands-on technical exposure. Students ranging from first-year undergraduates to final-year engineering candidates participated in the programme, gaining practical knowledge across core engineering and emerging technology domains.

Bridging the Gap Between Classrooms and Industry

The four-week programme was designed to give students direct exposure to industrial practices and contemporary technologies. Training covered a broad range of disciplines, including Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Civil Engineering, Information Technology and Software.

Alongside conventional engineering skills, the programme placed considerable emphasis on emerging areas such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI-ML), Cloud Computing, Internet of Things (IoT), Data Analytics and Additive Manufacturing.

According to CTTC, the programme offered training across 39 engineering and emerging technology domains, giving students opportunities to develop practical competencies relevant to today’s rapidly evolving industrial environment.

Mechanical Engineering Leads Participation

Mechanical engineering recorded the highest participation, with 3,193 students undergoing training. Electronics followed with 2,209 students, while IT and Software accounted for 1,948 participants. Civil Engineering saw 388 students, while other emerging technology areas collectively attracted 345 candidates.

Among individual training areas, Artificial Intelligence emerged as the most popular, with 1,748 students participating. PLC Programming attracted 1,000 students, followed by AutoCAD with 991 participants. Python Programming and Data Analytics recorded 413 and 392 students, respectively.

The diverse participation highlights the continued importance of traditional engineering disciplines while also demonstrating increasing student interest in digital technologies and advanced manufacturing capabilities.

Students from Leading Institutions Participate

The internship programme drew students from a wide spectrum of educational institutions across India. Participants included students from prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), deemed-to-be universities, engineering colleges and polytechnic institutes.

The participation of students from different academic years and institutions enabled the programme to serve as a broad-based platform for technical learning and industry exposure. The inclusion of international students from Sudan and Yemen also added an international dimension to the initiative.

CTTC Bhubaneswar’s Role in Technical Skill Development

Established to meet the tooling and training requirements of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, CTTC Bhubaneswar specialises in tool design, tool manufacturing and technical training. The institution provides services to sectors including automotive and general engineering, producing precision press tools, moulds and dies, gauges, jigs and fixtures.

Its training portfolio covers areas such as Tool and Die Technology, Product Design, Mechatronics, Advanced Machine Maintenance, CAD/CAM/CAE, CNC machining and programming, among others.

Supporting India’s Space and Aerospace Capabilities

Beyond training, CTTC Bhubaneswar has contributed to India’s strategic manufacturing ecosystem through its precision engineering capabilities. The centre manufactured and supplied 437 types of precision components, totalling 54,000 components, for the Indian Space Research Organisation’s Chandrayaan-3 mission, which was launched on July 14, 2023.

The institution also supplied precision components, including regulators, flow control valves, gyroscopes, temperature sensors and navigation parts, for ISRO’s Aditya-L1 solar mission, launched on September 2, 2023.

CTTC Bhubaneswar has further contributed to the aerospace and defence sectors by manufacturing high-precision components for original equipment manufacturers, including components associated with the Light Combat Aircraft programme.

The successful Summer Internship Programme underlines CTTC Bhubaneswar’s contribution to building a technically skilled workforce while strengthening the connection between academic education, advanced manufacturing and industrial requirements.
