Noida: Noida Safe City Project: Noida is set to witness a major transformation in urban surveillance and public safety after the approval of a ₹212.64 crore “Safe City” project aimed at strengthening security infrastructure across the city. Under the ambitious initiative, nearly 2,500 high-tech cameras will be installed to monitor around 20,000 strategic locations, making Noida one of the most technologically monitored urban centres in North India.

The project is expected to significantly enhance law enforcement capabilities, traffic management, women’s safety, and emergency response systems across the rapidly growing NCR city.

According to officials, the surveillance network will include Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled cameras equipped with advanced features such as facial recognition, automatic number plate recognition (ANPR), crowd monitoring, suspicious activity detection, and real-time traffic analytics. The cameras will be connected to an integrated command-and-control centre that will allow police and civic authorities to monitor city activities round-the-clock.

The Safe City initiative comes at a time when Noida is emerging as one of India’s fastest-growing urban and industrial hubs, housing major IT companies, manufacturing facilities, residential societies, educational institutions, and commercial centres.

Officials believe the project will play a crucial role in crime prevention and rapid response management. Sensitive public areas, marketplaces, metro stations, roads, residential sectors, and high-footfall zones are expected to come under enhanced digital surveillance.

Security experts say that the installation of intelligent surveillance systems can improve urban policing efficiency by enabling predictive monitoring and faster investigation support. AI-powered monitoring systems are increasingly being adopted by smart cities globally to improve public safety, reduce traffic violations, and strengthen emergency coordination.

The project also aligns with the broader Smart City and digital governance vision being implemented across several Indian urban centres. Authorities are expected to begin phased implementation of the surveillance infrastructure soon.

With rising urbanization, increasing traffic density, and growing population pressure in the NCR region, the Safe City project is being viewed as a major step toward creating a safer, smarter, and more digitally connected Noida.
