Marking World MSME Day with a major boost to entrepreneurship and industrial growth, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today launched the distribution of loans worth ₹20,000 crore to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across the state. The initiative aims to strengthen the MSME sector, generate employment opportunities, and accelerate economic development in both urban and rural areas.
The state-level event was held in Lucknow, where the Chief Minister also distributed toolkits to beneficiaries of various government schemes designed to promote self-employment and skill development. The programme witnessed participation from entrepreneurs, artisans, government officials, and beneficiaries from different districts of Uttar Pradesh.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted the vital role played by MSMEs in the state’s economic progress. He said that the sector serves as the backbone of industrial development and has emerged as one of the largest sources of employment after agriculture. According to him, MSMEs not only contribute significantly to production and exports but also provide livelihood opportunities to millions of people.
The Chief Minister noted that Uttar Pradesh has a rich tradition of craftsmanship and entrepreneurship, with each region possessing unique products and industries. He said that the state’s economic strength lies in its diversity, where different districts are known for producing distinctive goods ranging from handicrafts and textiles to food products and engineering items.
Emphasising the success of the One District, One Product (ODOP) initiative, Mr Adityanath said that the programme has helped local products gain national and international recognition. The scheme has enabled artisans, craftsmen, and small entrepreneurs to access larger markets, improve product quality, and increase their incomes. He added that ODOP has become a model for promoting traditional industries while creating new business opportunities.
The distribution of loans worth ₹20,000 crore is expected to provide much-needed financial support to thousands of MSME units. Industry experts believe that easier access to credit will help enterprises expand operations, adopt modern technology, and improve competitiveness. The financial assistance is also expected to encourage new entrepreneurs to establish businesses and contribute to the state’s industrial ecosystem.
Alongside loan distribution, the government provided toolkits to beneficiaries under various welfare and skill development schemes. These toolkits are intended to support individuals engaged in trades such as carpentry, tailoring, electrical work, and other vocational activities. Officials said the initiative would help beneficiaries become self-reliant and improve their earning potential.
Over the past few years, Uttar Pradesh has focused extensively on promoting entrepreneurship, improving the ease of doing business, and attracting investments. The state government has introduced several policy measures to support MSMEs, including financial incentives, infrastructure development, and digital platforms for market access.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to creating a favourable environment for businesses and ensuring that young entrepreneurs receive the necessary support to succeed. He stated that strengthening MSMEs remains a key priority because of their direct impact on employment generation, innovation, and inclusive economic growth.
World MSME Day is observed globally to recognize the contribution of small and medium enterprises to economic development and job creation. The large-scale loan distribution programme launched in Uttar Pradesh on this occasion reflects the state’s continued efforts to empower entrepreneurs and strengthen local industries.
With substantial financial assistance, expanded market opportunities through ODOP, and ongoing government support, the MSME sector in Uttar Pradesh is expected to play an even greater role in driving growth, boosting exports, and creating sustainable employment in the years ahead.
