The National SC-ST Hub (NSSH) Scheme is playing a significant role in promoting inclusive entrepreneurship by enabling Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) enterprises to overcome long-standing business challenges and access new growth opportunities. Through capacity building, mentorship, market linkages and strategic business support, the initiative is helping entrepreneurs strengthen their competitiveness while contributing to India’s vision of inclusive economic development.

Designed to address barriers such as limited access to finance, technology, institutional networks and markets, the scheme supports SC/ST-owned micro and small enterprises in expanding their business potential. Beyond facilitating participation in government procurement, the initiative focuses on creating sustainable enterprises capable of competing in structured and compliance-driven markets.

Capacity Building Strengthens Entrepreneurial Skills

A key pillar of the National SC-ST Hub Scheme is its emphasis on capacity building. Entrepreneurs receive training in essential business functions including financial management, pricing strategies, regulatory compliance, tender participation and business planning.

These programmes aim to equip entrepreneurs with practical knowledge required to navigate competitive markets and government procurement systems. By improving business management capabilities, the scheme enables enterprises to make informed decisions, enhance operational efficiency and build long-term resilience.

The initiative also helps entrepreneurs develop greater confidence in managing their businesses while preparing them to meet industry standards and compliance requirements.

Business Accelerator Programme Supports Enterprise Growth

Complementing the capacity-building efforts is the Business Accelerator Programme (BAP), which provides structured mentoring, industry guidance and strategic business interventions.

The programme helps entrepreneurs refine business strategies, improve pricing models, strengthen operational systems and identify new market opportunities. By adopting data-driven business practices, participating enterprises become better positioned to compete for government contracts and expand into larger markets.

The BAP has emerged as an important platform for helping SC/ST enterprises transition from experience-based operations to professionally managed businesses with stronger market orientation.

West Bengal Enterprise Improves Market Position

One of the beneficiaries of the programme is M/s Safety & Security Engineering of West Bengal, founded by entrepreneur Debasish Mondal. Operating in the highly regulated fire safety sector, the company initially faced challenges related to pricing, market visibility and competitive positioning despite offering reliable fire protection and life safety equipment.

Participation in the Business Accelerator Programme at IIM Sambalpur enabled the enterprise to develop a structured pricing framework and better understand its cost structure. The adoption of a data-based pricing strategy significantly improved the company’s competitiveness.

As a result, the enterprise successfully participated in government procurement and secured tenders worth ₹8.48 lakh from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, marking an important milestone in its business growth.

Assam Renewable Energy Firm Expands Opportunities

Another success story is M/s Renergy Solution Pvt. Ltd. from Assam, established by Bhargav Deori. The company had already built a strong technical base in the renewable energy sector and was executing solar installation projects for government institutions.

However, to sustain future growth, the enterprise sought to strengthen its business strategy and operational processes.

Through the Business Accelerator Programme, the company formalised its business operations and adopted a more structured market approach. The enhanced preparedness improved its engagement with government procurement platforms and increased its ability to secure new opportunities in the renewable energy sector.

The strategic support has positioned the enterprise for continued expansion while strengthening its contribution to clean energy initiatives.

Maharashtra Manufacturer Achieves Procurement Success

Sawalaram Enterprises from Nashik, Maharashtra, also illustrates the impact of the scheme. Founded by Sunil Popatrao Jagtap after nearly two decades of experience in the engineering sector, the company manufactures hydraulic cylinders for industrial applications.

After participating in the Business Accelerator Programme at IIM Shillong, the entrepreneur gained valuable insights into business strategy and government tender processes.

The knowledge acquired during the programme helped the enterprise secure a ₹5.10 lakh contract from the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) for supplying hydraulic cylinders. The achievement expanded the company’s market reach and strengthened its prospects for sustained business growth.

Supporting Inclusive Growth

The National SC-ST Hub Scheme continues to demonstrate how targeted policy interventions can strengthen entrepreneurship among historically underrepresented communities. By combining skill development, mentoring, market access and institutional support, the scheme is enabling SC/ST enterprises to participate more effectively in mainstream economic activities.

As these businesses expand across sectors ranging from manufacturing and engineering to renewable energy and safety equipment, they are contributing to employment generation, industrial development and inclusive economic growth. The initiative aligns with India’s broader vision of building a developed nation by 2047 through greater participation of diverse entrepreneurial communities in the country’s economic progress.
