In a major boost to traditional artisans and craftsmen, the PM Vishwakarma Scheme has taken another step towards strengthening livelihood opportunities by establishing its second operational PM Vishwakarma (PMV) stall at an airport. The new stall was inaugurated at Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, Chandigarh, on 14 July 2026, providing a dedicated platform for artisans to display and sell their handcrafted products to a wider audience.
The initiative has been supported by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and a Self-Help Group (SHG), reflecting a collaborative effort to promote local craftsmanship and create sustainable market linkages for traditional workers. The first operational PMV stall was earlier launched at Raja Bhoj Airport, Bhopal, marking the beginning of efforts to bring artisan-made products closer to consumers at high-footfall locations.
Creating New Opportunities for Traditional Craftspeople
The Chandigarh airport stall is being operated by three PM Vishwakarma beneficiaries from the region — Shri Beju Tulsidas, a skilled basket maker; Kumari Shaista Rani, a doll and toy maker; and Shri Rahul Kumar, a potter. Through this platform, these artisans will be able to showcase their unique handmade products and directly connect with customers, including domestic and international travellers.
The establishment of the stall represents the transformative role of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme in bridging the gap between traditional artisans and modern markets. By providing visibility in prominent public spaces, the initiative enables craftsmen to expand their customer base while preserving India’s diverse heritage of handmade products.
