The Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD), under the Digital India Corporation (DIC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has joined hands with the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) to introduce CAG-BHASHINI Anuvaad, an artificial intelligence-enabled document translation solution designed for official and audit-related documents.
The solution was launched during the closing ceremony of Hindi Diwas and Hindi Pakhwada 2026 at the CAG Office in New Delhi. The event was attended by Comptroller and Auditor General of India K. Sanjay Murthy, senior CAG officials and other dignitaries.
CAG-BHASHINI Anuvaad has been developed as a customised Language AI platform to address the specific translation requirements of the CAG. It is intended to support consistent terminology, contextual translation and improved quality while complementing existing institutional translation processes and retaining human oversight.
The initiative also incorporates requirements related to data security, controlled access and data sovereignty. By integrating BHASHINI’s multilingual capabilities into the CAG‘s institutional environment, the collaboration seeks to facilitate more efficient translation of official material and make audit-related information accessible in a wider range of Indian languages.
Speaking at the launch, Amitabh Nag, CEO of the Digital India BHASHINI Division, highlighted the development of BHASHINI’s Language AI ecosystem and its applications across government and public services. He noted that the platform currently supports 36 Indian text languages, 23 Indian voice languages and 35 international languages.
BHASHINI’s technologies are being used in several public-service applications, including multilingual agricultural advisories, voice-based grievance registration and conversational services delivered through voice and telephone interfaces. The initiative with CAG adds another institutional use case for India’s growing Language AI capabilities.
K. Sanjay Murthy, Comptroller and Auditor General of India, emphasised the importance of making audit findings and reports accessible to citizens in languages they understand. Technology-enabled translation can help expand access to audit information in local and regional languages while supporting the wider use of Hindi and other Indian languages in official work.
Nilotpal Goswami, Additional Deputy Comptroller & Auditor General (Rajbhasha), CAG, said that the integration of artificial intelligence with communication can help address linguistic barriers. He highlighted the potential of language technology to make institutional communication more accessible and efficient while strengthening the use of Indian languages in governance.
BHASHINI Supports Hindi Pakhwada Activities
The partnership between CAG and BHASHINI also extended to the Hindi Pakhwada 2026, conducted from 14 to 29 September. In addition to conventional language competitions, the programme incorporated technology-enabled activities and games developed with BHASHINI.
Officers and employees participated in activities covering official language usage, Hindi noting and drafting, translation, typing and other language-related skills. BHASHINI-based activities provided participants with an opportunity to explore the practical applications of digital language technologies.
The closing ceremony also included the felicitation of competition winners, with prizes and certificates presented to participants in recognition of their performance.
The collaboration demonstrates how Language AI can be incorporated into government institutions not only for document translation but also for interactive language engagement. The CAG-BHASHINI initiative brings together artificial intelligence, human expertise and institutional requirements to support multilingual access to official information.
BHASHINI’s Expanding Language AI Ecosystem
The Digital India BHASHINI Division serves as India’s national platform for AI-powered multilingual digital inclusion. According to the information shared at the event, BHASHINI powers more than 800 government websites and has enabled over 9 billion cumulative AI inferences, with more than 24 million AI inferences processed daily.
With support for multiple Indian and international languages, BHASHINI is contributing to the integration of language technologies into India’s digital public infrastructure. The launch of CAG-BHASHINI Anuvaad further expands the use of sovereign Language AI within government workflows and highlights the potential of multilingual technology to improve access to official information across linguistic communities.
