Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) has launched Special Campaign 6.0, focusing on sustainable waste management, workplace cleanliness and improved operational efficiency. The initiative has been taken up under the ‘Waste to Wealth’ theme of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) and the ‘eWaste Management’ theme of the Ministry of Coal, Government of India.
The campaign seeks to encourage responsible management of electronic waste while creating cleaner, more organised and environmentally conscious workplaces across ECL. It will also support the organisation in improving administrative efficiency through systematic disposal of pending matters, optimisation of office space and greater adoption of digital practices.
Two-Phase Action Plan
Special Campaign 6.0 will be implemented through a comprehensive action plan divided into two phases. The Preparatory Phase will be conducted from September 15 to September 30, 2026, during which various preparatory activities and identification of campaign targets will be undertaken.
This will be followed by the Implementation Phase from October 2 to October 31, 2026. During this period, the identified activities will be executed across ECL offices and operational areas with emphasis on measurable outcomes.
The campaign will primarily focus on four areas—E-Waste Management, Pendency Reduction, Space Optimisation and Digitalisation.
Emphasis on Responsible E-Waste Disposal
A major component of the campaign will be the effective collection, segregation and disposal of electronic waste. ECL will undertake systematic measures to identify obsolete electronic equipment and ensure its responsible handling and disposal.
Through the initiative, the company aims to strengthen environmentally responsible practices and minimise the impact of electronic waste. The approach is intended to promote better resource management while encouraging employees to adopt sustainable workplace habits.
The campaign carries the message ‘Act Today, Impact Tomorrow’, underlining the importance of immediate and collective action for long-term environmental benefits.
Reducing Pendency and Improving Efficiency
Special Campaign 6.0 will also address the timely disposal of pending public grievances, appeals, references and communications received from different stakeholders. These include matters received from Members of Parliament and State Governments.
By giving focused attention to pending cases, ECL aims to improve administrative responsiveness and strengthen the efficiency of its grievance redressal and communication mechanisms.
Optimising Valuable Office Space
Another important objective is the effective utilisation of office space. ECL will identify scrap, obsolete materials and unserviceable items that are occupying valuable space in its offices and other establishments.
The systematic disposal of such materials is expected to create more organised workplaces while making better use of available infrastructure. The initiative will also contribute to cleaner and safer working environments.
Promoting Digital and Eco-Friendly Workplaces
Digitalisation forms the fourth major pillar of the campaign. ECL plans to encourage paperless and eco-friendly workplace practices by making greater use of digital systems and processes.
The increased adoption of digital practices is expected to reduce paper consumption, streamline administrative activities and improve overall efficiency. It will also contribute to reducing the environmental footprint associated with conventional office operations.
Leadership Calls for Collective Participation
The campaign was formally launched by ECL CMD Shri Satish Jha, who gave the green signal for its commencement. Addressing officials and employees, Shri Jha highlighted the importance of collective participation in achieving the objectives of Special Campaign 6.0. He urged employees to make active and meaningful contributions to ensure the successful implementation of the campaign.
The launch programme was attended by Director (Finance) Shri Md. Anzar Alam, Director (HR) Shri Gunjan Kumar Sinha, Director (Technical/P&P) Shri Girish Gopinathan Nair and Director (Technical/Operations) Shri Chitranjan Kumar. Nodal Officer for Special Campaign 6.0 Shri Nazrul Islam, General Manager (HR), along with heads of departments from ECL headquarters and General Managers of various Areas, were also present.
With its focus on e-waste management, cleanliness, pendency reduction, space optimisation and digitalisation, Special Campaign 6.0 is expected to strengthen ECL’s commitment to sustainable and efficient workplace practices while supporting the broader objectives of the Government of India.
