The Government e Marketplace (GeM) has commenced a 10-day celebration programme ahead of its 10th Foundation Day, highlighting a decade-long journey of revolutionising public procurement in India through technology, transparency and inclusive participation. The celebrations began with a series of stakeholder-focused activities aimed at showcasing GeM’s achievements and its future roadmap for strengthening the country’s digital procurement ecosystem.
The inaugural event marked the unveiling of the official logo for GeM’s 10th Foundation Day. The logo represents the platform’s decade-long evolution as a trusted digital marketplace that has transformed the way government departments, organisations and public sector entities procure goods and services.
A special concept film based on the commemorative logo was also presented during the event. The film highlighted GeM’s growth trajectory, major milestones achieved over the years and its vision to further enhance efficiency, innovation and accessibility in public procurement.
A Decade of Technology-Driven Procurement Reforms
Since its establishment, GeM has emerged as a key pillar of India’s digital governance framework by enabling a transparent and efficient procurement process for government buyers and sellers. The platform has helped create a common digital marketplace where businesses, including small entrepreneurs and micro and small enterprises, can access government procurement opportunities.
The anniversary celebrations serve as a reflection of GeM’s role in reducing barriers for sellers, improving ease of doing business and promoting greater participation from diverse sections of the business community. By leveraging technology, data-driven solutions and digital processes, GeM has contributed significantly to making public procurement more accountable and accessible.
Addressing the gathering, GeM Chief Executive Officer Mihir Kumar highlighted the organisation’s remarkable journey over the past ten years. He spoke about GeM’s continued focus on innovation, stakeholder engagement and developing a more responsive procurement ecosystem that meets the evolving needs of buyers and sellers.
He also outlined GeM’s vision for the next phase of growth, emphasising the importance of new technologies, improved services and stronger collaboration with stakeholders to further strengthen India’s public procurement landscape.
Recognition of Employees and Knowledge Sharing Initiatives
The foundation day programme also featured the launch of the latest edition of GeM Bharti, the organisation’s in-house Hindi magazine. The publication reflects GeM’s efforts to promote communication, knowledge sharing and awareness among its stakeholders.
The event also recognised employees for their outstanding contributions and long-standing service to the organisation. The recognition highlighted the dedication and commitment of GeM’s workforce in building and expanding the platform over the last decade.
Stakeholder Engagement at the Centre of Celebrations
As part of the 10th Foundation Day celebrations, GeM has planned a series of engagement programmes involving buyers, sellers, policymakers, industry representatives and other ecosystem partners.
A dedicated Buyer Meet will be organised on 5 August, providing a platform for government buyers to share experiences, discuss challenges and explore opportunities to further improve procurement practices. This will be followed by a Seller Roundtable on 10 August, where sellers will engage with GeM officials and discuss ways to strengthen participation on the platform.
The Foundation Day celebrations will also honour outstanding buyers and sellers whose contributions have played a significant role in building a robust and inclusive GeM ecosystem.
Year-Long Outreach Programme to Expand Collaboration
The launch of the celebrations marks the beginning of a year-long series of outreach initiatives and stakeholder engagement programmes across the country. Through workshops, discussions, special events and collaborative platforms, GeM aims to bring together various stakeholders to celebrate its decade of service and explore future opportunities.
