India is set to host the First BRICS MSME Forum alongside the Third SME Working Group Meeting in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, marking a significant step toward enhancing international cooperation among micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Organized by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, the event will be held under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”

The high-level gathering will bring together policymakers, business leaders, entrepreneurs, industry associations and stakeholders from BRICS member countries and partner nations. Representatives from Brazil, China, Russia, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and India are expected to participate in the discussions.

The forum aims to create a collaborative platform for exchanging ideas, sharing policy experiences and identifying new opportunities for strengthening MSME ecosystems across participating nations. As global economies adapt to evolving challenges, the event is expected to focus on building resilient, innovative and sustainable enterprises capable of driving long-term economic growth.

India’s MSME sector has emerged as one of the strongest pillars of the national economy. With more than 8.6 crore enterprises, the sector contributes over 31 percent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and accounts for more than 35 percent of manufacturing output. MSMEs also play a crucial role in international trade, contributing nearly 49 percent of India’s exports while generating employment opportunities for millions of people.

The sector reflects the diversity of India’s entrepreneurial landscape. From traditional artisans and rural enterprises to technology-driven startups and advanced manufacturing units, MSMEs have become a vital source of innovation, employment and economic resilience. Their growing role in domestic production and exports has positioned them as key contributors to India’s vision of becoming a globally competitive economy.

The day-long programme in Agra will begin with the inauguration of a special exhibition showcasing achievements and innovations from the MSME sector. The exhibition is expected to highlight a wide range of products, technologies and business models developed by small and medium enterprises across different industries.

Following the exhibition, delegates will participate in the Third SME Working Group Meeting, where discussions will revolve around the theme “Building MSME Ecosystem – Sustainable Roots to Global Routes.” The meeting will explore strategies for supporting enterprise growth while ensuring sustainability, inclusiveness and international competitiveness.

A key feature of the forum will be the participation of private-sector stakeholders and industry associations from BRICS countries. Special sessions will focus on critical issues affecting small businesses, including access to finance, technology adoption and the promotion of sustainability-oriented enterprises. Experts are expected to deliberate on ways to improve credit availability, strengthen digital capabilities and encourage environmentally responsible business practices among MSMEs.

Senior government officials and delegates from participating countries will also share successful case studies and best practices from their respective nations. These discussions are expected to provide valuable insights into policy frameworks and support mechanisms that can help MSMEs adapt to changing market conditions and emerging global opportunities.

The BRICS MSME Forum is expected to strengthen economic cooperation among member and partner countries while promoting stronger business-to-business connections. By facilitating dialogue and partnership-building, the event seeks to create new avenues for trade, investment and technology collaboration.

As MSMEs continue to play a crucial role in job creation and economic development worldwide, the forum underscores the collective commitment of BRICS nations to empowering small businesses and enhancing their global competitiveness. The outcomes of the discussions are expected to contribute to more inclusive, sustainable and innovation-driven growth, reinforcing the role of MSMEs as engines of economic resilience in an increasingly interconnected world.
