In a major step towards expanding India’s horticultural exports, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, has facilitated the first-ever export of premium Areko cherries and Scentrose plums from Jammu & Kashmir to Singapore. The development marks another milestone in promoting the Union Territory’s premium temperate fruits in international markets and is expected to create new income opportunities for local fruit growers.
The inaugural consignment comprised High-Density European Sweet Cherries, marketed under the Areko variety, along with Scentrose plums sourced from the horticulture-rich districts of Shopian and Pulwama. The shipment follows the successful export of fresh cherries and plums from the region to Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, demonstrating the growing international demand for Kashmir’s high-quality produce.
Flag-Off Ceremony Marks New Export Destination
The first shipment to Singapore was flagged off on July 16, 2026, by APEDA in collaboration with M/s Osum Food Solutions LLP and M/s Fruit Master Agro Fresh Private Limited, Pulwama. The initiative reflects coordinated efforts between government agencies and private sector partners to expand export opportunities for Indian horticultural products.
The latest export is significant because Singapore represents a premium international market with stringent quality and food safety requirements. Successfully entering such a market enhances the credibility of Jammu & Kashmir’s fresh fruit exports and opens avenues for sustained trade in the future.
