The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) celebrated the 12th International Yoga Day with a large-scale yoga session at the Multi-Disciplinary Training Centre (MDTC) located in the Gandhi Darshan Complex, New Delhi. The event brought together officials, employees, and representatives associated with the Khadi sector to promote health, wellness, and environmental responsibility.

KVIC Chairman Shri Manoj Goyal attended the programme as the Chief Guest and participated in the yoga session along with officers and staff members. The event was organized in line with this year’s International Yoga Day theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” which emphasizes the importance of yoga in maintaining physical fitness, mental peace, and emotional well-being throughout life.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Goyal highlighted the growing global recognition of yoga and Khadi under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He stated that both have evolved into powerful mass movements that reflect India’s cultural heritage and values. According to him, yoga is much more than a form of physical exercise; it represents a holistic way of life that encourages balance, positivity, and inner harmony. Similarly, Khadi symbolizes self-reliance, sustainability, and the spirit of Swadeshi.

The KVIC Chairman noted that the Prime Minister’s efforts have successfully connected people across the world with India’s traditional practices and indigenous industries. He said that yoga and Khadi now serve as ambassadors of India’s rich cultural and economic legacy on the global stage.

Explaining the significance of this year’s theme, Shri Goyal remarked that “Yoga for Healthy Ageing” conveys an important message about maintaining good health and emotional stability at every stage of life, including old age. He stressed that regular yoga practice enables individuals to remain active, confident, and mentally strong while improving their overall quality of life.

Following the yoga session, Shri Goyal participated in a tree plantation activity under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign. The initiative, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, encourages citizens to plant trees in honour of their mothers while contributing to environmental conservation. A sapling was planted within the MDTC premises, and participants were urged to actively support efforts aimed at creating a greener and more sustainable future for the country.

During his address, the Chairman also highlighted the remarkable growth achieved by the Khadi and Village Industries sector in recent years. He stated that the sector recorded a turnover exceeding Rs. 1.87 lakh crore during the financial year 2025-26, reflecting its expanding contribution to the Indian economy. The sector has also emerged as a major source of livelihood, providing employment opportunities to more than 2.04 crore people across the country.

Expressing optimism about future growth, Shri Goyal said that the sector is well-positioned to achieve its ambitious turnover target of Rs. 2.51 lakh crore in the coming years. He credited this progress to government initiatives, increased public awareness, and the growing popularity of Khadi products among consumers.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from officials and staff members of the KVIC State Office (New Delhi), Khadi and Village Industries Bhavan, Resident Representative Office, Northern Zonal Office, and the Multi-Disciplinary Training Centre. After the programme, refreshments were distributed among participants as a gesture of encouragement and appreciation.

The celebration served as a reminder of the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles while promoting environmental sustainability. By combining yoga, community participation, and tree plantation activities, KVIC reinforced the vision of building a healthier, greener, and more empowered India. The programme concluded with a collective pledge to embrace wellness and contribute actively to the nation’s development and environmental protection efforts.
