Focus on Maharashtra’s Diverse Agro-Climatic Regions
Maharashtra is home to nine distinct agro-climatic zones, each presenting unique farming conditions and challenges. From water scarcity in drought-prone regions to pest attacks, soil degradation, climate variability, and post-harvest losses, farmers across the state face a wide range of issues that require location-specific solutions.

Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharne announced that, in line with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ commitment, the competition’s highest honour will be instituted in memory of the late Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
The winner of the Agri-Hackathon will receive a cash prize of ₹25 lakh, while the runner-up will be awarded ₹15 lakh annually. These substantial awards are intended to motivate innovators to develop impactful technologies capable of transforming agriculture in Maharashtra.
The recognition is also expected to encourage greater participation from educational institutions, research organisations, technology firms, and startups working in the agricultural domain.
Annual Problem Statements to Encourage Practical Innovation
One of the key features of the permanent scheme is the identification of annual problem statements based on the most pressing issues affecting the agricultural sector. These themes will guide participants in developing practical, need-based solutions instead of generic technological concepts.
The problem statements may focus on areas such as climate resilience, crop protection, efficient water management, soil health, mechanisation, digital advisory services, supply chain efficiency, post-harvest management, and sustainable farming practices.
