The District Opium Office, Mandsaur Second Division, Mandsaur, organised an awareness programme under “Mission Yuva Raksha” at Sharda Public School, Pipliya Mandi, with the aim of educating young students about the serious consequences of drug abuse and encouraging them to adopt a healthy and drug-free lifestyle.
The programme focused on strengthening awareness among school students about the dangers associated with narcotic and addictive substances. It also sought to highlight the important role that young people can play in preventing substance abuse and contributing to the development of a healthy and responsible society.
At the outset of the programme, students and other participants were introduced to the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN). Information was shared about the organisation’s mandate, functions and role in enforcing narcotics-related laws and supporting efforts aimed at preventing drug abuse. The session helped students understand the importance of regulatory and awareness initiatives in addressing the challenges posed by the misuse of addictive substances.
To make the awareness programme more engaging and interactive, a Question-and-Answer Competition was subsequently organised for the students. The activity provided participants with an opportunity to demonstrate their understanding while learning important facts about substance abuse and its consequences.
During the interactive session, students were sensitised to the wide-ranging impact that drug abuse can have on an individual’s life. Participants were informed that substance abuse can adversely affect physical and mental well-being and can also have serious consequences for education, family relationships, career prospects and the overall future of young people.
The programme also provided students with information about the harmful effects associated with different addictive substances and discussed preventive measures that can help young people stay away from substance abuse. Emphasis was placed on awareness, responsible decision-making and the importance of seeking appropriate support when faced with situations involving drugs or addictive substances.
The role of youth in creating awareness within their communities was another important aspect of the programme. Students were encouraged to act as responsible members of society and spread awareness about the risks associated with drug abuse among their peers, families and communities. The discussions underlined the importance of collective participation in efforts to build a drug-free environment.
At the conclusion of the programme, participating students and other attendees took the Drug-Free India Pledge. Through the pledge, participants committed themselves to staying away from drugs and contributing towards creating a healthier and drug-free society. The pledge served as a collective expression of the participants’ commitment to preventing substance abuse and promoting positive choices among young people.
The awareness programme was conducted successfully with the coordination and cooperation of the Principal of Sharda Public School, Pipliya Mandi. Approximately 150 students participated enthusiastically in the programme and actively engaged in the various awareness activities.
Participants also shared positive and encouraging feedback about the programme. The interactive format, particularly the Question-and-Answer Competition, helped make the discussions more accessible and engaging for the students.
The initiative under Mission Yuva Raksha highlighted the importance of reaching young people with timely and meaningful information about the dangers of drug abuse. By promoting awareness, encouraging responsible choices and involving students in drug-prevention activities, the programme aimed to strengthen youth participation in efforts to build a healthy, responsible and drug-free society.
