Delhi, 8th May 2026: In a landmark step towards strengthening rural connectivity and supply chain efficiency, Indian Railways has successfully delivered the first bulk Amul milk consignment to Jammu & Kashmir through a dedicated freight train service.
The special freight train transported nearly 1,000 tonnes of dairy products, including toned milk, milk powder, buttermilk, and lassi, ensuring faster and cost-effective delivery to the region’s remote areas.
Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh termed the initiative a “historic achievement” that reflects the government’s commitment to connecting difficult terrains with the national mainstream and improving ease of living for citizens.
He stated that the move represents India’s growing infrastructure strength and its vision of a “Viksit Bharat” powered by robust connectivity and efficient logistics.
The initiative is expected to reduce transportation costs, improve cold-chain efficiency, and create stronger dairy supply networks in Jammu & Kashmir, while also opening new opportunities for farmers, cooperatives, and agribusiness stakeholders across the country.
