In a significant step towards strengthening India’s scientific and technical workforce, CSIR–National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR-NCL), Pune, has inaugurated its newly renovated, state-of-the-art Skill Development Center. The upgraded facility is designed to provide advanced technical training, practical exposure to modern scientific instruments, and industry-oriented skill development, reinforcing the laboratory’s commitment to building a highly skilled workforce aligned with emerging industrial requirements.
The modernized center was inaugurated by Dr. Ashish Lele, Director of CSIR-NCL, in the presence of Dr. Vinay Kumar, Nodal Scientist for the CSIR-Integrated Skill Initiative (CSIR-HRDC, Ghaziabad), who attended as the Chief Guest. Representatives from the Envalior Team, which supported the renovation through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, also participated in the event. Other dignitaries included Dr. Rajesh Gonnade, NCL Skill Nodal Officer, and Mrs. Kanika Goel, Controller of Administration (COA), CSIR-NCL.
A Modern Hub for Skill Development
The newly upgraded Skill Development Center has been envisioned as a centralized and fully integrated facility that will serve as the focal point for all skill development and technical training programmes conducted at CSIR-NCL. Equipped with advanced infrastructure, the center is expected to enhance the quality of scientific and technical training while offering learners hands-on experience with sophisticated laboratory equipment and digital learning tools.
The facility features ultra-modern classrooms fitted with interactive smart displays and digital podiums, a dedicated computer laboratory, a technologically advanced digital conference room, analytical laboratories, and a centralized office for managing Skill Development Program (SDP) activities. The integrated design aims to create an efficient learning environment that combines theoretical knowledge with practical application.
Supporting the Vision of the CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative
The Skill Development Program at CSIR-NCL operates under the CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative (CSIR ISI), a national programme focused on developing a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting current and future industrial demands. The initiative seeks to bridge the gap between academic education and industry requirements by offering specialized, application-oriented training in areas where CSIR laboratories possess core expertise.
At CSIR-NCL, these programmes are delivered by experienced scientists and technical experts using the laboratory’s advanced research infrastructure. Participants receive exposure to cutting-edge analytical techniques, laboratory practices, and emerging technologies that are increasingly sought after across sectors such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, materials science, biotechnology, and manufacturing.
The upgraded center is expected to further strengthen these efforts by creating a more conducive environment for advanced learning, technical workshops, certification programmes, and industry-focused training modules.
Focus on Practical Learning and Innovation
Addressing the gathering during the inauguration, Dr. Ashish Lele highlighted the importance of practical training in preparing young professionals for evolving industrial and research landscapes. He noted that the enhanced facilities would enable participants to gain valuable hands-on experience with specialized scientific instruments while improving their technical competence and problem-solving abilities.
According to him, the Skill Development Center will not only enhance employability but also encourage innovation by exposing trainees to real-world scientific applications and advanced laboratory practices. Such initiatives are expected to contribute significantly to India’s growing demand for a technically proficient workforce capable of supporting research-driven industries.
Strengthening National Skill Ecosystem
Chief Guest Dr. Vinay Kumar appreciated the upgraded infrastructure, describing it as an important milestone in advancing the objectives of the CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative. He observed that the modern facilities are well aligned with the national mission of strengthening scientific capabilities and developing sustainable technological expertise.
He emphasized that advanced training centers such as the one established at CSIR-NCL play a crucial role in nurturing skilled professionals who can contribute to innovation, industrial productivity, and national development.
Industry Collaboration through CSR
The modernization of the Skill Development Center was made possible through the Corporate Social Responsibility support extended by the Envalior Team. The collaboration reflects the growing role of industry in strengthening scientific education and technical skill development infrastructure.
Such partnerships are becoming increasingly important in creating world-class training facilities that can prepare students, researchers, and professionals for rapidly changing technological landscapes while addressing the evolving needs of Indian industry.
With its upgraded infrastructure, experienced faculty, and strong focus on industry relevance, the new Skill Development Center at CSIR-NCL is expected to become an important platform for nurturing future-ready scientific talent. By integrating advanced technology, practical training, and collaborative learning, the facility reinforces CSIR-NCL’s commitment to supporting India’s vision of becoming a global hub for innovation, research, and skilled human resource development.
