The CSIR–Institute of Minerals & Materials Technology (CSIR-IMMT), Bhubaneswar, has taken a significant step toward strengthening digital education and skill development with the inauguration of its Advanced E-Learning Centre under the CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative. The facility, inaugurated on July 27, 2026, is expected to enhance access to technology-enabled learning while supporting students, researchers, professionals and industry personnel through modern online and hybrid training programmes.
The launch of the centre reflects CSIR-IMMT’s continued efforts to promote digital learning infrastructure and build a future-ready workforce equipped with industry-relevant skills.
Inauguration Begins with Tree Plantation Drive
The day’s programme began with a tree plantation drive led by Dr. Vinay Kumar, Scientist-G and Nodal Scientist for the CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative at the CSIR-Human Resource Development Centre (CSIR-HRDC). The plantation activity symbolized the institute’s commitment to sustainable development alongside educational advancement.
Following the plantation drive, Dr. Vinay Kumar formally inaugurated the Advanced E-Learning Centre in the presence of Dr. Ramanuj Narayan, Director of CSIR-IMMT. The event marked the official opening of a facility designed to serve as a hub for digital education, collaborative learning and professional training.
Skill Development Meeting Highlights Future Opportunities
The inauguration was followed by a Skill Development Meeting held at the S. S. Bhatnagar Hall, where scientists, research scholars, students and staff members gathered to discuss the evolving role of technology in education and workforce development.
Welcoming the participants, Dr. Ramanuj Narayan emphasized the institute’s commitment to creating an ecosystem that supports innovation, digital education and skill enhancement. He noted that the Advanced E-Learning Centre would expand access to quality educational resources while helping learners improve their technical and professional competencies.
According to him, the new digital infrastructure would play an important role in preparing researchers and professionals for rapidly changing industrial and technological environments.

Dr. Santosh Kumar Behera, Scientist-F and Skill Development Coordinator at CSIR-IMMT, presented an overview of the institute’s skill development programmes implemented under the CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative.
He highlighted the success of various training programmes, industry-oriented courses and capacity-building initiatives conducted by the institute over the years. These programmes have attracted participation from students, researchers and working professionals from different parts of the country, helping them acquire practical skills aligned with industry requirements.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Trupti Das, Scientist-G, Chief Scientist and Chairperson (HRD), stressed the growing importance of continuous learning in today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape.
She observed that human resource development and technology-enabled education have become critical for preparing professionals capable of addressing emerging industrial and research challenges. She encouraged participants to embrace lifelong learning as a means to remain competitive in science, technology and innovation-driven sectors.

Dr. L. D. Besra, Scientist-G and Head at CSIR-IMMT, highlighted the broader role of skill development programmes in improving employability and fostering innovation.
He pointed out that regular skill upgradation helps bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry expectations, enabling graduates and professionals to contribute more effectively to research institutions and industrial organizations. Building a competent workforce, he noted, requires continuous exposure to practical knowledge and evolving technologies.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Vinay Kumar outlined the vision of the CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative to create a nationwide ecosystem for digital education and industry-relevant skill development.
He appreciated CSIR-IMMT for establishing the Advanced E-Learning Centre and expressed confidence that the facility would become a valuable platform for conducting online training programmes, hybrid courses, webinars, workshops and collaborative knowledge-sharing activities.
