The Union Government has approved procurement of pulses and oilseeds worth ₹5,547.99 crore at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) for the Kharif Marketing Season 2026-27. The procurement will be carried out in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana, providing support to farmers at a time when market prices for agricultural commodities may fluctuate.

Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the decision reflects the government’s continued focus on improving farmers’ incomes, ensuring remunerative prices for agricultural produce and strengthening the country’s agricultural self-reliance. The approved procurement programme is particularly significant for growers of pulses and oilseeds.

Under the procurement plan, Uttar Pradesh has received the largest allocation among the three states. The government has sanctioned procurement worth ₹3,992.57 crore in the state. This includes 4,66,000 metric tonnes of tur valued at ₹3,937.70 crore and 6,250 metric tonnes of moong valued at ₹54.87 crore. Both commodities will be procured from eligible farmers at the applicable MSP under the PSS.

Karnataka will also benefit from a substantial procurement programme amounting to ₹1,107 crore. The approved plan covers 1,15,500 metric tonnes of soybean with an estimated value of ₹659.27 crore. In addition, 38,250 metric tonnes of moong worth ₹335.83 crore and 13,413 metric tonnes of sunflower valued at ₹111.90 crore will be procured at MSP.

For Telangana, the Centre has approved procurement worth ₹448.42 crore. The state’s procurement programme includes 62,000 metric tonnes of soybean valued at ₹353.90 crore and 10,766 metric tonnes of moong valued at ₹94.52 crore. The procurement will take place under the Price Support Scheme at the notified MSP.

The Price Support Scheme is intended to provide farmers with an assured procurement mechanism when market prices fall below remunerative levels. By purchasing eligible agricultural commodities at MSP, the scheme can help reduce the impact of price volatility on farmers and provide greater certainty regarding returns from their produce.

The latest approval also places emphasis on increasing domestic production of pulses and oilseeds. India has been seeking to strengthen domestic availability of these commodities and reduce dependence on imports. Greater procurement support for farmers producing pulses and oilseeds can contribute to this broader agricultural objective by providing an incentive for cultivation.

Shri Chouhan said that the government is working to make procurement systems more transparent and accessible to farmers. He also stated that procurement arrangements at designated centres would be maintained in a transparent manner. Farmers participating in the approved procurement programme will receive payment directly into their bank accounts, helping ensure timely settlement for their produce.

The combined procurement approved for Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana covers a significant quantity of tur, moong, soybean and sunflower. These commodities are important components of India’s pulse and edible oil supply chain. The procurement decision is therefore expected to support farmers while also contributing to efforts aimed at improving domestic production.

The government has reiterated that farmer welfare, income enhancement and agricultural self-reliance remain important priorities. The ₹5,547.99 crore procurement approval for Kharif Marketing Season 2026-27 represents another step towards providing market support to farmers growing selected pulses and oilseeds.

With procurement being undertaken at MSP under the PSS, the initiative is designed to provide economic support to eligible farmers in the three states and strengthen the procurement framework for key agricultural commodities during the Kharif marketing season
