Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal held a series of high-level meetings with senior executives of leading American companies in New York, focusing on expanding trade, investment and commercial partnerships between India and the United States.

The discussions brought together prominent business leaders from sectors including private equity, financial services, insurance, technology, manufacturing, artificial intelligence and consumer products. The meetings were aimed at highlighting India’s growing economic opportunities and encouraging American companies to expand their presence and investments in the country.

During his engagements, Goyal met Blackstone President and Chief Operating Officer Jonathan Gray and Prakash Melwani, Chairman of Blackstone’s International Private Equity business. The discussions centred on opportunities to expand Blackstone’s investments and business partnerships in India across a range of important sectors.

The Minister also met Neuberger Berman Chairman and CEO George Walker and members of the company’s senior leadership. The interaction explored opportunities to deepen investment ties between India and the global financial services firm, with discussions covering financial and wealth management services.

India’s expanding consumer market was another key focus of Goyal’s meetings. He held talks with Stéphane de La Faverie, President and CEO of The Estée Lauder Companies. The discussions covered the company’s opportunities for further growth in India, including greater manufacturing and sourcing activities. The Minister also highlighted the country’s rapidly expanding beauty and personal care market, supported by rising consumer demand.

Technology and emerging areas of innovation featured prominently in Goyal’s discussions with IBM Chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna. The two sides discussed ways to further strengthen IBM’s engagement in India and expand cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure and quantum computing. The discussions underscored India’s increasing importance as a destination for advanced technology investments and innovation-led partnerships.

The Minister also met MetLife President and CEO Michel A. Khalaf to discuss the company’s growth prospects in India. The talks focused on the expanding insurance and financial services ecosystem and the opportunities emerging from India’s growing economy and financial inclusion efforts.

Investment opportunities were also discussed during Goyal’s meeting with General Atlantic Chairman and CEO William E. Ford. The interaction explored possibilities for strengthening the investment firm’s business engagement with India and identifying new avenues for collaboration.

Goyal further met Mark Tucker, Non-Executive Chairman of AIA Group. Their discussions focused on AIA’s activities and future opportunities in India’s insurance and financial services sectors. The conversation also took place against the backdrop of India’s long-term vision of achieving “Insurance for All by 2047,” which seeks to significantly widen insurance coverage across the country.

The series of meetings provided an opportunity for the Union Minister to present India as an attractive destination for global investment and business expansion. The discussions highlighted the breadth of opportunities available to US companies as India continues to strengthen its manufacturing capabilities, develop its technology ecosystem and expand its financial and consumer markets.

The engagements also reinforced the importance of private-sector participation in deepening India–US economic relations. By engaging directly with senior executives of major American companies, India sought to identify new investment avenues, strengthen existing partnerships and encourage greater business-to-business cooperation.

With opportunities spanning financial services, insurance, manufacturing, energy, technology, artificial intelligence and other emerging sectors, the meetings reflected the broadening scope of India–US commercial ties. The interactions are expected to contribute to stronger investment linkages and support greater economic cooperation between the two countries in the years ahead.
