तपस्या परिहार के सफर की शुरुआत नरसिंहपुर, मध्य प्रदेश से होती है। उन्होंने इस स्कूल की पढ़ाई सेंट्रल स्कूल से पूरी की। उसके बाद उन्होंने सेंट्रल स्कूल से आगे की पढ़ाई की। इसके बाद उन्होंने यूपीएससी क्लियर करने का मन बनाया और इसकी तैयारी के लिए कोचिंग ज्वाइन कर ली। तपस्या ने सिविल सेवा परीक्षा की तैयारी के लिए खूब मेहनत की, लेकिन पहले प्रयास में ही प्रीलिम्स में फेल हो गई।

इस सफलता के बाद उन्होंने सेल्फ स्टडी के जरिए एग्जाम पास करने की ठान ली। उन्होंने इसकी तैयारी के लिए स्टेटस जी खुद ही बनाई और नोट और आंसर पेपर की मदद से अपनी पढ़ाई जारी रखी। किस्मत का नतीजा यह रहा कि उन्होंने अपने दूसरे अटेम्प्स पर ना केवल सिर्फ सफलता प्राप्त की, बल्कि ऑल इंडिया रैंक 23 हासिल की।

तपस्या एक ऐसे छोटे कस्बे से आती है जहां की जनसंख्या मात्र 800 लोगों की है। यहां का साक्षरता दर 63% है। तपस्या के पिता विश्वास परिहार किसान परिवार से आते हैं। लेकिन जब तपस्या ने घर में अपने सपने के बारे में बताया तो उनके परिवार से उन्हें पूरा सहयोग मिला।
