The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has launched its participation in Special Campaign 6, with all its Zones, Directorates and field formations joining the nationwide drive aimed at improving cleanliness, reducing administrative pendency and strengthening record management in government offices.
The campaign is being conducted from October 2 to October 31, 2026. CBIC has sensitised its formations to participate actively and implement the initiative in a focused manner, with emphasis on measurable outcomes and sustained improvements in workplace management.
Special Campaign 6 follows the progress achieved by CBIC during Special Campaign 5.0. The previous campaign recorded full achievement against identified targets relating to cleanliness sites, references received from Members of Parliament, public grievances and appeals concerning public grievances.
A major component of the earlier campaign was the systematic review and disposal of physical records. CBIC formations reviewed thousands of files, identified records that were no longer required and undertook their weeding out in accordance with applicable procedures. This exercise helped create additional usable space in government offices while improving the management of official records.
During Special Campaign 5.0, a total of 41,055 physical files were reviewed, of which 23,743 were weeded out. The initiative also helped CBIC formations free 43,009 square feet of office space. In addition, approximately 22,728 kg of scrap was disposed of during the campaign, including 8,801 kg of electronic waste.
The disposal of e-waste was undertaken in accordance with the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022, highlighting the growing emphasis on environmentally responsible practices in government establishments. The campaign also involved the safe destruction of around 250 kg of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, along with approximately 26 lakh foreign-origin cigarettes, e-cigarettes and related items.
Building on these achievements, Special Campaign 6 places particular emphasis on the scientific handling of electronic waste. CBIC has identified effective collection, segregation and disposal of e-waste as a key focus area for this year’s campaign. The approach is intended to ensure that discarded electronic equipment is managed systematically and disposed of through appropriate channels.
Alongside e-waste management, the campaign will cover several other areas of administrative functioning, including workplace cleanliness, record management, space optimisation and the timely disposal of pending matters. By addressing these areas together, CBIC aims to improve both the physical working environment and the efficiency of routine administrative processes.
The campaign also provides an opportunity for CBIC’s extensive network of Zones, Directorates and field formations to adopt consistent practices in cleanliness and office management. The participation of different formations is expected to support a coordinated approach towards reducing pendency and ensuring better utilisation of government resources.
CBIC’s participation in Special Campaign 6 reflects the continuation of efforts to make cleanliness and efficient administration an integral part of its functioning rather than a one-time exercise. The focus on record management, disposal of obsolete material and responsible handling of e-waste is also aimed at promoting more sustainable workplace practices.
Through the month-long campaign, CBIC will seek to consolidate the gains made during previous campaigns while giving greater attention to environmental responsibility and timely disposal of pending work. The initiative underscores the Board’s stated commitment to maintaining clean offices, improving administrative efficiency, managing records effectively and adopting environmentally responsible disposal practices on a continuing basis.
