Apple has unveiled the winners of its prestigious 2026 Apple Design Awards, recognising 12 outstanding apps and games from developers across the globe for excellence in innovation, accessibility, design, and user experience. The awards were announced ahead of the company’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC26), highlighting the creativity and technical expertise of developers building experiences across Apple platforms.
This year’s awards featured six categories, with one app and one game receiving honours in each category. The winners were selected from a shortlist of 36 finalists representing some of the most innovative digital experiences available on the App Store.
India secured a notable achievement at the event through Guitar Wiz, developed by independent creator Bijoy Thangaraj. The app won the award in the Inclusivity category, making it the only Indian entry to secure a top honour this year.
Designed as a comprehensive learning and practice tool for guitar players, Guitar Wiz caters to users of varying skill levels. The app incorporates a range of accessibility-focused features, including spoken guidance for pitch, finger positioning, and playing techniques. It also integrates several Apple accessibility tools, such as Dynamic Type, Increased Contrast, and Differentiate Without Color, ensuring a more inclusive experience for users with diverse needs.
In the Delight and Fun category, Apple recognised grug, an affirmation and self-improvement app developed by Dutch studio Ocho. The app stands out for presenting motivational content through a unique prehistoric-themed visual style. The gaming award in the category went to Is This Seat Taken?, a puzzle game from Spain’s Poti Poti Studio that challenges players to solve social seating dilemmas on public transportation.
The Innovation category celebrated groundbreaking technological experiences. The NBA app for Apple Vision Pro earned the award for its immersive sports-viewing capabilities, allowing users to watch multiple live games simultaneously while accessing real-time statistics and interactive 3D visualisations. In gaming, Blue Prince, developed by the US-based studio Dogubomb, was recognised for blending exploration, puzzles, and narrative storytelling into a distinctive gameplay experience.
For excellence in user interaction, Apple honoured Moonlitt: Moon Phase Tracker, created by Italy’s Flipping Hues. The app was praised for its intuitive interface and seamless integration with Apple’s design technologies. The companion gaming award went to Sago Mini Jinja’s Garden, a child-friendly title from Canadian developer Sago Mini that uses gesture-based controls to encourage creative play among young users.
The Social Impact category recognised products that create meaningful change. Primary: News in Depth, developed for Apple Vision Pro by US-based Wood Metal Rocks, was honoured for transforming the way users engage with news content in immersive environments. The game winner, Consume Me, created by independent developers Jenny Jiao Hsia and AP Thomson, received praise for its deeply personal narrative exploring emotional well-being and body image.
Completing the list, the Visuals and Graphics category celebrated exceptional artistic and technical execution. Tide Guide: Charts & Tables from Condor Digital won for its sophisticated animations and visually rich presentation of tidal information. The gaming award was presented to Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, developed by Poland’s CD Projekt, for delivering a visually impressive open-world experience on Mac devices powered by Apple silicon.
The 2026 winners collectively represent developers from nine countries, including India, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States, Italy, Canada, Poland, and Australia. The diverse geographical spread reflects the increasingly global nature of Apple’s developer ecosystem and the growing influence of creators from different regions.
While Guitar Wiz was India’s sole winner this year, its success underscores the rising prominence of Indian developers on the global technology stage. Apple also announced that all 36 finalists would be recognised on its developer platform, celebrating their contributions to advancing app and game design worldwide.
