Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the tremendous success of the International Day of Yoga demonstrates the transformative power of yoga in promoting not only physical health but also mental well-being and a positive outlook on life. Highlighting yoga’s expanding global acceptance, the Prime Minister noted that millions of people across the world are embracing the ancient Indian practice to lead healthier, more balanced, and confident lives.

In a message shared on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that yoga has evolved into a global movement that transcends geographical, cultural, and linguistic boundaries. He stated that the widespread participation in International Yoga Day celebrations serves as evidence of yoga’s ability to improve physical fitness while fostering inner strength and emotional resilience.

The Prime Minister also shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam that highlights the deeper philosophical essence of yoga:

“चित्तप्रशमनोपायो योग इत्यभिधीयते।
प्राणस्पन्दनिरोधो वा द्वेधा योगस्य धारणा॥”

Explaining the meaning of the verse, he noted that yoga is regarded as a method for calming and quieting the mind completely. According to the ancient wisdom contained in the Subhashitam, the objective can be achieved through two key approaches: controlling the fluctuations of the mind and regulating the flow of breath. These principles form the foundation of yogic practice and continue to guide practitioners around the world.

Prime Minister Modi’s remarks came in the wake of large-scale celebrations of the International Day of Yoga, observed annually on June 21. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from people of all age groups across India and numerous countries worldwide. Public gatherings, yoga demonstrations, wellness workshops, and community sessions were organized in cities, towns, and villages, reflecting the growing popularity of yoga as a holistic lifestyle practice.

Since the United Nations adopted June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in 2014 following India’s proposal, the observance has gained significant momentum globally. Over the years, yoga has emerged as an effective tool for promoting preventive healthcare, stress management, and overall well-being. Governments, educational institutions, healthcare organizations, and civil society groups have increasingly incorporated yoga into their wellness initiatives.

The Prime Minister has consistently advocated yoga as an integral part of daily life, emphasizing its role in achieving harmony between the body and mind. He has often described yoga as India’s invaluable gift to humanity, capable of fostering individual wellness as well as collective well-being.

Experts believe that the growing acceptance of yoga is driven by increasing awareness about lifestyle-related diseases, mental health challenges, and the importance of holistic approaches to wellness. Yoga’s combination of physical postures, breathing techniques, meditation, and mindfulness practices has made it a preferred choice for individuals seeking sustainable health solutions.

The success of this year’s International Day of Yoga further underscores the universal appeal of the practice. Across continents, people participated in yoga sessions in parks, community centers, educational institutions, and iconic public spaces, reaffirming yoga’s status as a global movement for health and wellness.

As yoga continues to inspire millions, Prime Minister Modi’s message highlights its enduring relevance in modern life. By promoting physical fitness, mental clarity, emotional balance, and self-confidence, yoga remains a powerful instrument for building healthier individuals and stronger communities worldwide.

The overwhelming response to International Yoga Day reflects the growing recognition that yoga is not merely a form of exercise but a way of life that encourages positivity, discipline, and inner peace—values that resonate universally in an increasingly fast-paced world.
