Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, has emphasized the need for stronger industry-driven partnerships among BRICS nations to accelerate innovation, entrepreneurship, and technological advancement. The Minister made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation from the BRICS Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BRICS CCI) in New Delhi on Monday.

The delegation was led by BRICS CCI Chairman Sameep Shastri and included Vice Chairman Atul Bansal, Vice Chairperson Shabana Nasim, along with other senior representatives of the chamber. The discussions focused on expanding collaboration among BRICS and BRICS Plus countries in areas such as startups, emerging technologies, research partnerships, and entrepreneurship.

During the meeting, the chamber representatives presented an overview of the organisation’s initiatives over the past decade. These efforts have included promoting trade facilitation, business-to-business engagement, women entrepreneurship, startup networking, artificial intelligence, and research collaborations among member nations.

Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted India’s emergence as a leading global innovation hub and said the country’s progress in science and technology offers significant opportunities for international cooperation. He stated that industry organizations operating within the BRICS framework should focus on creating meaningful value through innovation, knowledge sharing, and strategic partnerships rather than limiting their activities to conventional networking.

The Minister noted that India has achieved remarkable growth in several advanced sectors, including space technology, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, nuclear energy, and deep technology. According to him, policy reforms and institutional support introduced over the past decade have transformed these sectors into key drivers of economic growth and entrepreneurship.

He said the expanding innovation ecosystem in India presents opportunities for stronger collaboration involving government institutions, industry bodies, academic organizations, and innovators. Such partnerships, he added, can contribute to both national development and global progress.

Dr. Singh also underlined the importance of connecting Indian startups with innovation ecosystems across BRICS and BRICS Plus countries. He said organizations like the BRICS Chamber of Commerce and Industry can serve as effective platforms for facilitating technology partnerships, knowledge exchange, and economic engagement among member nations.

The Minister encouraged the chamber to organize sector-specific meetings, innovation forums, and thematic discussions to strengthen its role within the BRICS ecosystem. He stressed that sustained engagement, active participation, and knowledge-based contributions would help increase the chamber’s visibility and effectiveness.

He further invited the chamber to identify focused areas of cooperation that align with India’s scientific and technological priorities. He suggested developing sector-specific proposals that could support meaningful engagement with various government departments and research institutions.

According to Dr. Singh, areas such as biotechnology, space technology, startup ecosystems, innovation-driven enterprises, and public-private partnerships offer considerable potential for mutually beneficial cooperation. He emphasized that collaborative efforts in these sectors could strengthen economic ties and encourage technological advancement across BRICS nations.

The BRICS Chamber of Commerce and Industry reiterated its commitment to promoting entrepreneurship, innovation, trade facilitation, research collaboration, and women-led enterprises among BRICS and BRICS Plus countries. Established more than a decade ago, the chamber has expanded its activities through international business forums, sectoral dialogues, and collaborative platforms involving businesses, institutions, and stakeholders from participating nations.

The meeting reflected the growing importance of innovation-led cooperation among emerging economies. As BRICS countries continue to expand their engagement through the BRICS Plus framework, industry organizations are expected to play a greater role in building partnerships that support economic growth, technological development, and sustainable progress.

The interaction between the Minister and the BRICS CCI leadership highlighted India’s intent to strengthen global innovation networks while leveraging its scientific and technological capabilities to foster international cooperation.
