The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) has launched an extensive series of activities under Swachhata Pakhwada 2026, being observed from July 16 to July 31, reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability, public participation and the vision of a cleaner and greener India. The fortnight-long campaign is being implemented across the Ministry’s headquarters, attached and subordinate offices, autonomous bodies and field formations, encouraging employees and stakeholders to embrace cleanliness and sustainable practices as an integral part of daily life.
The initiative aligns with the broader objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission, while placing renewed emphasis on waste reduction, resource conservation, tree plantation, environmental awareness and responsible waste management. Through a combination of awareness campaigns and on-ground activities, the Ministry aims to promote long-term behavioural change and strengthen community participation in environmental conservation.
Plantation Drive Highlights Green Commitment
One of the key events of the campaign was a plantation drive conducted under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative. Union Minister for MSME Jitan Ram Majhi, MSME Secretary Bharat Khera, and Dr. Rajneesh, Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner (MSME), participated in the programme, reinforcing the Ministry’s commitment to environmental protection alongside cleanliness initiatives.
The plantation drive underscored the close relationship between a clean environment and sustainable development. By encouraging tree plantation, the Ministry sought to inspire greater environmental awareness while highlighting the importance of collective action in addressing ecological challenges.
Officials noted that such initiatives not only contribute to increasing green cover but also foster a sense of environmental responsibility among employees and citizens.
Swachhata Pledge Reinforces Collective Responsibility
As part of the campaign, officers and employees across the Ministry reaffirmed their commitment to cleanliness by participating in a Swachhata Pledge administered by Dr. Rajneesh.
The pledge ceremony witnessed participation from officials representing the Ministry’s headquarters as well as attached and subordinate organisations. Participants pledged to actively support the ideals of cleanliness and contribute to the nationwide effort to maintain hygienic public spaces.
The Ministry believes that such collective commitments play an important role in transforming cleanliness from an occasional campaign into a sustained public movement.
Cleanliness Must Become a Way of Life
During a ‘Swachhata Talk’ organised under the Pakhwada, Vinamra Mishra, Joint Secretary, Ministry of MSME, stressed that cleanliness should not be viewed as a temporary initiative but as a continuous civic responsibility.
Addressing officers and representatives from the Ministry’s attached organisations, subordinate offices and field formations, he urged every institution to organise meaningful cleanliness drives, awareness programmes and sustainability-focused activities within their offices and surrounding communities.
He also encouraged organisations to involve local stakeholders and citizens in these initiatives so that the campaign creates a wider social impact beyond government offices.
Diverse Activities Planned Across the Country
Throughout the fortnight, the Ministry has directed its offices across India to undertake a wide range of activities designed to promote sustainable practices and improve workplace and community environments.
The planned initiatives include:
- Cleanliness drives in office premises and surrounding public areas.
- Tree plantation campaigns.
- Public awareness programmes on hygiene and environmental conservation.
- Scientific waste segregation and proper disposal practices.
- Reduction of single-use plastic usage.
- Record management and systematic disposal of obsolete materials.
- Citizen-centric programmes encouraging community participation in cleanliness initiatives.
These activities are intended not only to improve physical surroundings but also to cultivate environmentally responsible behaviour among employees and the public.
Supporting the Vision of Swachh Bharat
The Ministry stated that Swachhata Pakhwada has become an important platform for promoting environmental consciousness while encouraging individuals to adopt sustainable habits in their everyday lives.
By integrating cleanliness campaigns with initiatives such as tree plantation and waste reduction, the Ministry is seeking to contribute to national goals related to environmental sustainability and public health.
The campaign also reflects the government’s broader emphasis on responsible resource management and citizen participation in achieving long-term environmental objectives.
Reiterating its commitment to the vision of “Swachh Bharat – Swasth Bharat,” the Ministry said that cleanliness should evolve into a shared social responsibility rather than remain confined to periodic campaigns. The message of this year’s observance is clear: lasting change can be achieved only when governments, institutions and citizens work together to make cleanliness and environmental stewardship a permanent way of life.
