Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal arrived in Milwaukee, United States, to participate in the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting, where trade and economic cooperation among major economies are expected to be discussed. During his visit, Goyal held discussions with senior representatives of leading American manufacturing and technology companies, focusing on opportunities to deepen India-U.S. economic and business ties.
Goyal was received upon his arrival by Dr. M. Anand Prakash, Consul General at the Consulate General of India in Chicago. His visit comes as India and the United States continue to explore opportunities for expanding cooperation across trade, investment, manufacturing, technology and supply-chain development.
As part of his engagements in Milwaukee, Goyal participated in a business roundtable hosted by the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM). The meeting brought together chief executive officers and senior executives from prominent U.S. manufacturing and technology companies.
The National Association of Manufacturers represents a significant segment of the American manufacturing industry. The U.S. manufacturing sector contributes substantially to the country’s economy, with manufacturing GDP estimated at around $3 trillion. The interaction therefore provided an opportunity for India to engage directly with major industry stakeholders on investment and business opportunities.
During the roundtable, Goyal underlined the changing nature of the India-U.S. economic partnership. He said the relationship is moving beyond a conventional trade framework and is increasingly developing into a broader economic partnership involving investment, manufacturing, technology, innovation and resilient supply chains.
The Minister also highlighted the importance of developing high-value capabilities in both countries. According to the discussions, closer cooperation between Indian and American businesses can contribute to the expansion of manufacturing capacities, technology partnerships and investment opportunities while strengthening supply-chain resilience.
The U.S. business representatives participating in the roundtable shared their perspectives on the opportunities available in India. Company executives also discussed their plans and views regarding the expansion of partnerships and business activities in the Indian market.
Goyal assured the participating business leaders that the Government of India is prepared to support companies seeking to establish, expand or invest in the country. The government’s focus, he indicated, is on facilitating business operations and creating conditions that can encourage greater investment and industrial collaboration.
The Minister’s engagement with American industry comes at a time when India is seeking to strengthen its position as a major manufacturing and investment destination. Areas such as advanced technology, manufacturing, innovation and supply-chain diversification have emerged as important components of India’s broader economic engagement with global partners.
Goyal also attended a reception hosted jointly by the Business Roundtable (BRT) and the National Association of Manufacturers at the global headquarters of Rockwell Automation. The event brought together senior business leaders from U.S. companies and Trade Ministers representing G20 countries.
At the reception, Goyal interacted with trade ministers from other G20 member countries as well as senior representatives of American businesses. Such engagements provide an additional platform for exchanging views on global trade, investment and emerging economic opportunities.
The Minister’s Milwaukee engagements are part of India’s broader participation in the G20 trade process. The discussions with U.S. industry leaders also underline the growing importance of private-sector participation in strengthening bilateral economic relations.
Through direct dialogue with business executives and international trade ministers, India is seeking to expand commercial partnerships, attract investment and promote cooperation in emerging areas of the global economy. The engagements in Milwaukee are expected to contribute to continued discussions on building stronger India-U.S. economic linkages based on trade, investment, technology, manufacturing and resilient supply chains.
