India’s growing wind energy sector will take centre stage in Chennai as the 8th edition of Windergy India gets underway from October 7 to 9, 2026, at the Chennai Trade Centre. The flagship industry event is expected to bring together policymakers, manufacturers, technology providers, investors, researchers and other stakeholders from across India and the world.

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Education and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Shri Pralhad Joshi, will inaugurate the event on October 8. The inauguration ceremony will also be attended by Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy and Power, and Thiru C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar, Minister for Energy Resources and Law, Government of Tamil Nadu.

Senior representatives from the Central and state governments, wind energy associations and the industry are also expected to participate in the opening ceremony. The inauguration is set to provide a platform for important announcements, including global Memoranda of Understanding and the release of reports focusing on developments and opportunities in the wind energy sector.

The event will also recognise states that have made significant contributions to the development of wind power, highlighting the role of state-level initiatives in expanding renewable energy capacity across the country.

India’s wind energy capacity has continued to grow rapidly. The country added a record 6.05 GW of wind power capacity during FY 2025-26, taking cumulative installed capacity to 58.52 GW by August 2026. Around 28 GW of additional capacity is currently under implementation, supporting the national objective of reaching 100 GW of wind energy capacity by 2030.

Windergy India 2026 will feature a comprehensive programme designed to facilitate business, technology exchange and policy discussions. The three-day trade fair will be accompanied by a two-day conference, technical sessions, round-table discussions, live demonstrations and dedicated business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-government (B2G) meetings. An Academia Connect programme will further encourage interaction between educational institutions, researchers and the wind industry.

The exhibition is expected to attract approximately 400 exhibitors from more than 20 countries, along with around 500 delegates. Dedicated country pavilions from Denmark, Germany and Spain will provide an international dimension to the event and create opportunities for collaboration, investment and technology partnerships.

A major focus of the exhibition will be on strengthening India’s domestic wind manufacturing ecosystem. Key areas on display will include next-generation wind turbine platforms, advanced heavy-duty gearboxes, artificial intelligence-based operations and maintenance solutions, and technologies supporting offshore wind development.

The conference programme will address several issues shaping the future of the industry. Discussions are expected to cover policy and regulatory frameworks, manufacturing competitiveness, strategies for repowering ageing wind assets and the development of India’s offshore wind potential.

The event is being organised by the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) and PDA Ventures Pvt. Ltd., with support from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and the Ministry of Power (MoP).

With participation from domestic and international stakeholders, Windergy India 2026 is expected to provide a platform for discussions on technology, investment, manufacturing and policy while strengthening cooperation across the global wind energy ecosystem. The inauguration on October 8 will mark a key moment in the three-day event as India continues its efforts to expand renewable energy capacity and advance its long-term wind power ambitions.
