The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has unveiled the Khadi India Pavilion at Bharat Tex 2026, presenting a vibrant showcase of India’s evolving Khadi ecosystem that blends tradition, innovation and sustainability. The pavilion was inaugurated by Shri Manoj Goel, Chairman, KVIC, at Hall No. 10 of Bharat Mandapam, where the country’s largest global textile exhibition is currently underway.

The pavilion reflects KVIC’s efforts to reposition Khadi as a modern lifestyle brand while preserving its deep-rooted cultural significance. It features an extensive collection of Khadi apparel, home furnishings, décor products, indigenous fibre innovations and traditional production tools, offering visitors a comprehensive view of the sector’s transformation.

A Modern Identity for Khadi

During his visit, Shri Manoj Goel toured the pavilion and interacted with artisans, exhibitors and representatives of Khadi institutions from across India. He reviewed a wide variety of contemporary Khadi products, including home linen, home décor items, fashion apparel and innovation-driven collections developed for changing consumer preferences.

He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Khadi has evolved far beyond being just a hand-spun fabric. According to him, it has become a symbol of India’s cultural heritage, self-reliance, environmental sustainability and the economic empowerment of millions of rural artisans.

He noted that Khadi today represents the spirit of initiatives such as Atmanirbhar Bharat, Vocal for Local, Local to Global and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, while continuing to provide livelihoods to artisans and weavers across the country.

Innovation Meets Traditional Craftsmanship

One of the key attractions during the Chairman’s visit was the ‘Mula’ Jamdani saree and apparel collection displayed by the Ghoranash Silk Khadi Gramodyog Samiti from West Bengal.

Shri Goel appreciated the institution’s efforts to combine the centuries-old Jamdani weaving tradition with modern design concepts. He observed that such creative collaborations could help establish a stronger global identity for Indian Khadi and handicrafts by making them more appealing to contemporary consumers.

The interaction also allowed artisans to share their experiences, production techniques and innovative approaches that are helping traditional crafts adapt to evolving market trends.

Theme Celebrates Contemporary Living

The pavilion has been developed around the theme “Khadi Reimagined: Tradition for Contemporary Living.” It aims to demonstrate how research, design and technological innovation are shaping what KVIC describes as the “New Khadi of New India.”

Among the major attractions are contemporary home décor collections, products made from indigenous fibres, demonstrations of traditional Khadi production tools and a specially curated range targeted at younger consumers.

A dedicated section titled “Naye Bharat Ki Nayi Khadi – Khadi for Nation, Khadi for Fashion, Khadi for Transformation” highlights how Khadi is expanding beyond conventional clothing into lifestyle products and global fashion.

Senior officials of KVIC and the Centre of Excellence for Khadi (CoEK) were also present during the inauguration.

Sector Records Strong Growth

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Goel highlighted the rapid growth witnessed by the Khadi and Village Industries sector in recent years.

He stated that during the financial year 2025-26, the sector recorded a turnover of more than ₹1.87 lakh crore while generating employment for over 2.04 crore people across India. He expressed confidence that the sector’s continued expansion would help it achieve a turnover of ₹2.51 lakh crore in the coming years.

The Chairman said the impressive growth reflects the impact of policy initiatives focused on strengthening rural enterprises, promoting sustainable manufacturing and expanding market access for Khadi products.

Bharat Tex 2026 Draws Global Attention

Being held from July 14 to 17 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, Bharat Tex 2026 has brought together thousands of buyers, manufacturers, designers, entrepreneurs, policymakers and international delegates from across the world.

The event serves as a major platform for showcasing India’s textile capabilities and strengthening global partnerships across the value chain.

Through the Khadi India Pavilion, KVIC is presenting India’s traditional craftsmanship alongside modern innovation, reinforcing the country’s commitment to sustainable textiles and rural entrepreneurship. The exhibition also underlines Khadi’s growing acceptance as a premium, eco-friendly and globally competitive brand that continues to connect India’s rich heritage with the demands of modern consumers.
