Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan interacted with students at the ‘Khelo India Samvaad – Khel Ki Baat PM Modi Ke Saath’ programme held at Mata Sundari College for Women in Delhi. Organised in collaboration with MY Bharat, the interaction provided students with an opportunity to directly share their ideas and concerns on sports, youth development and related issues.

The nationwide programme was organised with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi as the Chief Guest. At the Delhi event, Shri Chouhan highlighted the importance of involving young people in policy discussions and ensuring that their suggestions contribute to the government’s efforts towards building a Viksit Bharat.

Sports Essential for Holistic Development

Addressing the students, Shri Chouhan said sports should be regarded as an integral part of education and personality development. He noted that participation in sports helps young people develop discipline, confidence, resilience and leadership qualities, making it as important as academic learning for overall growth.

The Minister assured students that the government would carefully consider their suggestions and make appropriate changes in policies and their implementation wherever necessary. He said practical and feasible recommendations emerging from the interaction would be shared with the concerned departments for further action.

Students Highlight Mental Health Needs

Mental health emerged as one of the key concerns raised by students. They proposed introducing regular sports psychology modules at Khelo India Centres and government sports academies to help athletes manage the pressures associated with competitive sports.

The suggested modules could cover areas such as stress management, meditation, motivation, performance pressure, emotional coaching and coping with failure. Students emphasised that mental well-being should receive the same attention as physical preparation, particularly for young athletes competing at higher levels.

Shri Chouhan welcomed the suggestions and assured the participants that greater attention would be given to mental health and nutrition as part of efforts to strengthen the sporting ecosystem.

Focus on Rural and Remote Sporting Talent

Students also called for stronger support for aspiring athletes in rural and remote parts of the country. Their recommendations included improved sports infrastructure, affordable equipment, trained coaches, career counselling and greater awareness of sporting opportunities.

They suggested establishing local training centres and introducing financial assistance mechanisms for students from economically weaker backgrounds. Grants and equipment rental facilities were among the measures proposed to help talented youngsters pursue sports without financial constraints.

The participants also recommended workshops for parents and teachers to create a more supportive environment for young athletes. Such initiatives, they said, could help families and educational institutions better understand the demands and potential of sporting careers.

Call for a Drug-Free India

During the programme, Shri Chouhan administered the Drug-Free India pledge to the students. He urged young people to stay away from drugs and contribute to creating a healthier and safer society.

The Minister said the strength of the nation lies in its healthy and fit youth. He stressed that preparations for national and international sporting competitions are being continuously strengthened and that providing athletes with better opportunities remains a priority.

The students welcomed the opportunity to interact directly with the Union Minister and present their views. Several participants said such platforms can help bridge the gap between young citizens and policymakers, while also creating hope that their suggestions will translate into meaningful action.

The interaction underscored the government’s emphasis on youth participation, sporting development, mental well-being, nutrition and social responsibility as important elements in shaping a healthier and more resilient generation.
