The ICAR–Indian Institute of Oilseeds Research (ICAR-IIOR), Hyderabad, is set to organise a National Consultation and Industry Interface Meet on September 10, 2026, with a focus on accelerating the development, commercialization and adoption of innovative technologies for India’s oilseed sector.
The consultation will be centred on the theme, “Innovations in Varieties/Hybrids, Biologicals and Biopolymer-Enabled Multilayer Seed Coating Technologies for Sustainable Agriculture: Industry Partnerships for Technology Commercialization and Scaling.” The event will be held at the ICAR-IIOR campus in Hyderabad and is expected to provide a platform for closer engagement between agricultural researchers and industry stakeholders.
Focus on Strengthening Domestic Oilseed Production
India is a major player in the global vegetable oil economy, but rising consumption and the continuing need to reduce dependence on edible oil imports have increased the importance of boosting domestic oilseed production. Achieving this objective requires not only improved crop varieties but also faster movement of scientific innovations from research laboratories to farms.
Against this backdrop, ICAR-IIOR has been working on technologies designed to improve oilseed productivity, crop protection and seed performance. The institute’s innovations include improved varieties and hybrids, biopolymer-based seed enhancement technologies and microbial biopesticide formulations aimed at supporting more sustainable agricultural practices.
The upcoming consultation is intended to create a stronger link between these research outcomes and their potential commercial applications. By bringing researchers and businesses together, the programme will facilitate discussions on how promising technologies can be refined, validated and made available to farmers at scale.
Industry and Startup Participation
