The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) has strengthened its technology-support network with the inauguration of a new Technology Centre at Devanahalli, Bengaluru, Karnataka. Minister of State for MSME, Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, inaugurated the facility on September 10 in the presence of senior government officials, industry representatives and other stakeholders.
The inauguration also featured an exhibition highlighting the growing contribution of Indian MSMEs to the aerospace and Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sectors. The new centre is expected to provide a platform for technological advancement, skill development and industrial support for MSMEs and young professionals.
Focus on Advanced Technology and Skill Development
The Ministry of MSME operates a nationwide network of Technology Centres designed to improve the technological capabilities and competitiveness of small businesses. These centres support enterprises through technology development, industrial training, product design, prototyping, testing, manufacturing assistance and consultancy.
Speaking at the inauguration, Sushri Shobha Karandlaje said the Bengaluru centre would function as a hub for training, manufacturing and development of young talent. She highlighted the role of Technology Centres in equipping students and aspiring professionals with practical, industry-oriented skills.
The Minister also announced that another Technology Centre is being developed at Belagavi, Karnataka, at an estimated cost of ₹178 crore. She encouraged students and young innovators to consider entrepreneurship and startups as avenues to contribute to India’s economic development.
Karandlaje emphasised that the government is working to provide opportunities for students to learn, train and acquire skills aligned with the vision of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat. She also underlined the importance of strengthening the MSME sector, which plays a major role in India’s economic growth.
Bengaluru Centre to Train 10,000 People Annually
Secretary of the Ministry of MSME, Shri Bharat Khera, highlighted the recent amendments to the MSMED Act, 2026, aimed at providing greater support to MSMEs. He described the Bengaluru Technology Centre as an important initiative for developing skilled manpower and preparing young people for industry requirements.
The centre is expected to train approximately 10,000 trainees every year. Through advanced technical training and practical exposure, it will help create a workforce capable of meeting the changing needs of India’s manufacturing and technology industries.
Dr. Rajneesh, Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner, Ministry of MSME, said the sector currently has more than 9.4 crore registered MSMEs, which contribute around 31 per cent to the Indian economy and provide employment to more than 41.6 crore people.
He also highlighted government initiatives such as the Trade Receivables Discounting System (TReDS) and the Credit Guarantee Scheme, which are aimed at improving MSMEs’ access to finance and strengthening their business capabilities.
₹156 Crore Investment in Technology Infrastructure
The Bengaluru Technology Centre has been developed with an investment of ₹156 crore on a 10-acre land parcel provided by the Government of Karnataka. Its primary focus area is Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM), an important sector for India’s growing electronics and advanced manufacturing ecosystem.
The centre has been equipped with modern machinery and specialised laboratories. Its facilities include a Surface-Mount Technology (SMT) line, additive manufacturing systems, CNC 5-axis and 3-axis machines, and Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) technology.
The facility is expected to support MSMEs with advanced design, prototyping, production, testing, training and consultancy services. Its capabilities will particularly benefit enterprises operating in electronics and aerospace-related industries.
Strengthening India’s MSME Ecosystem
The Bengaluru Technology Centre is positioned to serve as an important institution for strengthening India’s technology-driven MSME ecosystem. By connecting businesses with modern machinery, technical expertise and skilled manpower, the centre is expected to improve productivity and competitiveness.
The initiative is also expected to contribute to employment generation, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods in Karnataka while extending technological support to MSMEs across the country. With its focus on ESDM and aerospace, the centre could further help Indian enterprises integrate into high-value manufacturing and technology supply chains.
