Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal held a series of high-level meetings with business leaders and industry representatives in Brussels on July 14–15, 2026, reaffirming India’s commitment to expanding trade, technology partnerships and industrial collaboration with the European Union. The engagements took place on the sidelines of the India–EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) Ministerial and focused on strengthening economic ties, promoting innovation and creating new opportunities for businesses on both sides.
Industry Outreach Begins with Strategic Corporate Meetings
The Minister’s Brussels visit began with discussions involving senior executives from leading European companies. On July 14, Shri Goyal met Alain Queverin, Chief Executive Officer of Thales Belgium, to explore avenues for deeper industrial cooperation and technology partnerships. The discussions reflected the growing importance of collaboration in advanced technologies and innovation-driven sectors as India and Europe seek to strengthen long-term economic relations.
He also met Jean Christophe Bogaert, Managing Director of Silox Group, where the talks centred on expanding bilateral trade and identifying opportunities for enhanced industrial cooperation. The meeting highlighted the shared interest in increasing business engagement and supporting industrial growth through stronger commercial partnerships.
These interactions marked the start of the Minister’s industry-focused engagements in Brussels, providing an opportunity to exchange views with European business leaders on emerging areas of cooperation and future investment prospects.
Business Roundtable Focuses on Trade, Innovation and Investment
On July 15, Shri Goyal participated in a Business Roundtable hosted by the Federation of Enterprises in Belgium (FEB). The event brought together prominent representatives from Indian and European industries to discuss key issues shaping economic cooperation between the two regions.
The Minister was joined by the Minister of External Affairs and the Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, reflecting the broad-based nature of India’s engagement with Europe under the Trade and Technology Council framework.
Participants deliberated on a range of issues, including trade facilitation, investment promotion, resilient supply chains, digital transformation and innovation-led growth. The discussions also highlighted the importance of creating a business-friendly environment that encourages collaboration in emerging technologies while supporting sustainable economic development.
Industry leaders from both India and Europe shared perspectives on improving commercial connectivity and unlocking new opportunities through closer policy coordination and stronger institutional partnerships.
Interaction with FICCI Delegation Highlights Industry Priorities
Later in the day, Shri Goyal met members of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) delegation at Hotel Steigenberger. The interaction offered Indian businesses an opportunity to directly present their views on issues affecting international trade and investment.
Representatives from various sectors discussed measures to enhance the competitiveness of Indian enterprises, address regulatory challenges and maximise opportunities arising from the India–EU Trade and Technology Council.
The Minister reiterated the Government’s commitment to supporting Indian companies in expanding their presence in European markets. He also underlined the importance of innovation, technology adoption and stronger industry partnerships in enhancing India’s global competitiveness.
The interaction reflected the Government’s consultative approach, ensuring that industry feedback contributes to shaping policies that facilitate trade and improve market access for Indian businesses.
Strengthening the India–EU Economic Partnership
The Brussels engagements underscored India’s broader strategy of building stronger economic and technological partnerships with the European Union. By engaging directly with business leaders, industry associations and Indian enterprises, the Government aims to accelerate investment, encourage innovation and strengthen industrial collaboration across multiple sectors.
The meetings also highlighted the growing role of the India–EU Trade and Technology Council as a platform for advancing cooperation in trade, technology and resilient supply chains. The framework has emerged as an important mechanism for addressing shared economic priorities and fostering collaboration in areas critical to future growth.
Shri Goyal’s discussions reinforced India’s focus on industry-led development and demonstrated the Government’s intent to work closely with both domestic and international businesses to create a more integrated and competitive economic ecosystem.
With Europe remaining one of India’s key economic partners, the Minister’s engagements in Brussels are expected to further strengthen commercial ties, promote technology-driven collaboration and open new avenues for trade and investment, contributing to the long-term growth of the India–EU partnership.
