भारत की तरफ से पुरुष एकल में भरत राघव ने जर्मनी के संजीवी पदमनाभन वासुदेव को 14-21, 21-17, 21-8 से हराकर भारत को 2-0 से बढ़त दिलाई. लेकिन अर्श मोहम्मद और अभिनव ठाकुर को युगल जोड़ी की वीडियो नाथन और सिमोन के खिलाफ 14-21, 22-24 से हारना पड़ा.
इसके अलावा भारत की तरफ से ओडिशा ओपन विजेता उन्नति हुड्डा ने जर्मनी की सेलिन हुब्स को 21-8 21-6 से हराकर भारत को 3-1 से बढ़त दिलाई. इसके बाद उन्होंने श्रीनिधि नारायण के साथ मिलकर महिला युगल युलिया मेयर और कारा साइब्रेट को 21-13 और 21-13 से हराकर भारत को 4-1 से जीत दिला दी.
इससे पहले गुरुवार को हुए मुकाबले में मलेशिया ने भारत को 3-1 से करारी शिकस्त दी थी. भारतीय खिलाड़ी अनुपमा उपाध्याय भारत के लिए जीतने वाले एकमात्र खिलाड़ी थी. इसके अलावा पुरुष एकल में आयुष शेट्टी को जस्टिन होह से हार का सामना करना पड़ा. सनी कुमार सानिया ने महिला एकल में सिती नूरशुहेइनी को 21-14, 21-15 से हराकर भारत को बराबरी दिलाई.
इसके साथ ही पुरुष युगल में निकोलस राज और तुषार को फजरिक मोहम्मद और वोंग विन सीन ने 21-9, 21-7 से हराया. टीम इंडिया ग्रुप में चीन के बाद दूसरे स्थान पर रही. शीर्ष पर रहने वाली टीमें क्वार्टर फाइनल में पहुंच चुकी है.
