As part of its pre-campaign activities for World Environment Day 2026, the National Institute of Sowa Rigpa (NISR), Sabu Thang, organized a Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) Session under the Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) initiative. The event sought to encourage sustainable living practices by highlighting the connection between personal well-being, environmental consciousness, and responsible lifestyle choices.

The programme was conducted under the theme, “Linking Yoga Practice to Mindful and Low-Consumption Living,” and witnessed active participation from faculty members, staff, and students of the institute. The session aimed to spread awareness about the importance of adopting environmentally responsible habits while promoting physical and mental wellness through yoga.

The Common Yoga Protocol session was led by trained yoga instructor Shri Gopal Sharma, who guided participants through a series of yoga asanas and pranayama exercises. The carefully designed session focused on improving flexibility, concentration, and overall health while encouraging mindfulness and self-discipline.

Addressing the participants, institute officials emphasized that yoga is not merely a physical exercise but a way of life that fosters balance, awareness, and harmony with nature. They highlighted that the practice of yoga aligns closely with the objectives of Mission LiFE, a nationwide movement aimed at promoting sustainable lifestyles through individual and collective action.

During the session, participants engaged in various yoga postures and breathing techniques that are part of the Common Yoga Protocol, a standardized sequence developed to promote the widespread practice of yoga. The exercises were designed to help individuals manage stress, improve mental clarity, and cultivate a deeper sense of responsibility toward themselves and the environment.

The event underscored the growing recognition of yoga as an effective tool for encouraging mindful living. Speakers noted that simple lifestyle choices, when guided by awareness and moderation, can significantly contribute to environmental conservation. By reducing unnecessary consumption and embracing healthier habits, individuals can play a meaningful role in addressing environmental challenges.

Participants expressed enthusiasm about the initiative and appreciated the opportunity to connect the principles of yoga with sustainable living. Many highlighted that practices such as mindfulness, moderation, and self-awareness—central to yoga—can inspire people to make environmentally conscious decisions in their daily lives.

The programme also served as a platform to reinforce the message that environmental protection begins with individual action. Through the practice of yoga, participants were encouraged to cultivate habits that support both personal health and ecological balance. The session demonstrated how wellness and sustainability can go hand in hand, creating positive impacts for individuals as well as society.

Officials of the institute reiterated their commitment to promoting environmental awareness and healthy living among students and the wider community. They stated that educational institutions have an important role in encouraging behavioural changes that contribute to long-term sustainability.

The yoga session forms part of a broader series of awareness programmes and outreach activities being organized by NISR in the lead-up to World Environment Day 2026. These initiatives are designed to inspire greater public participation in environmental conservation efforts and strengthen understanding of sustainable lifestyles.

World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5, serves as a global platform for raising awareness and encouraging action on environmental issues. By integrating yoga with the objectives of Mission LiFE, the National Institute of Sowa Rigpa aims to inspire individuals to adopt healthier, more sustainable ways of living that benefit both people and the planet.

Through initiatives such as the Common Yoga Protocol session, the institute continues to promote the message that mindful living, environmental responsibility, and personal well-being are closely interconnected and essential for building a sustainable future.
