Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Jitendra Singh, on Saturday highlighted the transformative impact of the Narendra Modi-led government over the past twelve years, emphasizing that inclusive development and equitable welfare delivery have become the defining features of governance during this period.
Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh to mark the completion of twelve years of the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Dr. Singh said that welfare schemes and development initiatives have been implemented without discrimination based on caste, religion, community, or political considerations. He noted that the government’s focus has been on ensuring that benefits reach every eligible citizen through a transparent and need-based approach.
The Minister stated that the administration has adopted a saturation-driven model of governance, ensuring that welfare schemes reach the last mile and cover all deserving beneficiaries. According to him, this approach has strengthened public trust and improved the effectiveness of government programmes across sectors.
Dr. Singh said that one of the most significant changes witnessed during the last decade has been the transformation of governance through technology, transparency, and accountability. Digital platforms and direct benefit transfer mechanisms have enabled public resources to reach beneficiaries efficiently while reducing leakages and delays. He emphasized that the use of technology has played a critical role in strengthening service delivery and improving citizen access to government schemes.
Highlighting key welfare initiatives, the Minister pointed out that programmes related to affordable housing, sanitation, healthcare, financial inclusion, food security, clean cooking fuel, and social security have collectively enhanced the quality of life for millions of families across India. He said these interventions have helped address long-standing developmental challenges and have contributed to improving living conditions, particularly among vulnerable sections of society.
Referring to the country’s socio-economic progress, Dr. Singh stated that nearly 25 crore people have emerged from multidimensional poverty over the past several years. He described this achievement as a reflection of sustained policy efforts aimed at inclusive growth and social welfare. According to him, development benefits have increasingly reached communities that remained underserved for decades, thereby promoting greater social equity and economic participation.
The Minister also underlined the importance of democratizing access to resources and opportunities. He said that expanded access to banking services, digital infrastructure, welfare schemes, and basic amenities has enabled more citizens to actively participate in the nation’s development process. This broader inclusion, he noted, has strengthened economic empowerment and improved social mobility across various segments of society.
Dr. Singh observed that improvements in living standards among economically weaker sections have brought about a noticeable shift in aspirations and confidence levels. Greater financial security and enhanced access to opportunities have empowered individuals and families to pursue better livelihoods and improve their overall quality of life. He added that such progress has contributed to fostering a sense of dignity and self-reliance among beneficiaries.
Emphasizing the government’s governance philosophy, the Minister said that the focus has consistently been on empowering citizens rather than creating dependency. He noted that transparency, efficiency, and measurable outcomes have guided policy implementation under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. The objective, he said, has been to ensure that development benefits are shared widely and contribute to building a stronger and more inclusive nation.
Looking ahead, Dr. Singh expressed confidence in India’s continued growth trajectory. He said that the achievements of the past twelve years reflect the aspirations and participation of the country’s citizens and reaffirm the government’s commitment to the vision of a developed India, or “Viksit Bharat.”
The Minister concluded by stating that India is steadily advancing toward becoming a global leader in innovation, economic development, and human progress. He expressed optimism that citizen participation in the nation-building process will continue to grow in the years ahead, further strengthening India’s journey toward prosperity and self-reliance.
